| Mutinus elegans |
Mutinus elegans is also known as the dog stinkhorn due to the similarity with a particular part of a dog’s anatomy. Stinkhorns get their name from the putrid smell originating from the spore mass at the tip. It smells of rotting flesh to attract flies. They land on the spores and unknowingly carry them off to their next stop. This is a 2 day, 12 hour time lapse movie with images taken at 5 minute intervals. |
