The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
 
USAID is an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State.  The agency works to support long-term and equitable economic growth and advancing U.S. foreign policy objectives by supporting:

The Rockefeller Foundation is a knowledge-based, global foundation
with a commitment to enrich and sustain the lives and livelihoods of
poor and excluded people throughout the world. In order to maximize
its resources and leverage the Foundation's strengths, grantmaking is
organized around four thematic lines of work: Creativity & Culture,
Food Security, Health Equity and Working Communities. A cross-theme
of Global Inclusion supports, promotes and supplements the work of
these themes. In addition, the Foundation supports a number of
programs that are developing or in transition, among them the Africa
Regional Program, Communication for Social Change, Public/Private
Partnerships and Global Philanthropy.
The Foundation Center An independent nonprofit organization established by foundations in 1956 whose mission is to increase public understanding of the foundation field. This site includes information about the center's libraries and locations, publications and services, the Philanthropy News Digest, and grant maker information.
The Council on Foundations A nonprofit membership association of grant making foundations and corporations whose mission is to promote responsible and effective philanthropy. This site includes information on the way foundations work and the topics that are current.
AT&T Foundation The principal instrument for AT&T philanthropy in the United States and throughout the world. It provides cash grants to nonprofit institutions in the following program areas: Education, Health and Human Services, Arts and Culture, and International.
Carnegie Corporation of New York Includes information on the Carnegie Corporation's programs, how to submit a proposal, grant restrictions, and grant restrictions.
Center for Field Research From Earthwatch, funds contributed to projects come from the donations of Earthwatch members who enlist for the opportunity to join scientists in the field and assist them with their data collection and other research tasks. Foundation and corporate sponsors also contribute toward project development and implementation.
Civilian Research & Development Foundation The U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation for the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (CRDF) is a private, nonprofit charitable organization that seeks to address the state of science and engineering in the former Soviet Union by fostering opportunities for collaborative projects between the FSU and U.S. researchers.
The Commonwealth Fund Philanthropic foundation established to enhance the common good. The fund's current four national program areas are improving health care services, bettering the health of minority Americans, advancing the well-being of elderly people, and developing the capacities of children and young people.
The Charles A. Dana Foundation A private philanthropic foundation with grant programs in health and education and operating programs of awards and public affairs.
John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Provides fellowships for advanced professionals in natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and creative arts (except the performing arts). Grants are made to individuals.
Hewlett Packard Product gifts account for most of HP's philanthropy which supports undergraduate and graduate instruction and research projects at colleges and universities through giving state-of-the-art equipment while attracting highly skilled workers to the industries supported by HP.
Howard Hughes Medical Institute HHMI is a medical research organization whose scientists across the country study the biological mysteries that underlie health and disease. In addition, through its grants program, the Institute sponsors the largest private science education program in U.S. history and supports the research of outstanding biomedical scientists abroad. HHMI does research in five broad fields: cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, and structural biology.
W. Alton Jones Foundation Concentrates its efforts in two program areas: a Sustainable World Program concerned with biological diversity and sustainable economics and a Secure World Program. Program guidelines, application procedures, grant limitations, and contact information are made available on the foundation's gopher server.
The George Lucas Educational Foundation The George Lucas Educational Foundation was established to enhance the innovative uses of multimedia technologies in education.
John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Contains up-to-date information about such matters as the foundation's program interests, application guidelines, recent grants, board members, and staff.
The James S. McDonnell Foundation The foundation has three main funding areas: biomedical and behavioral sciences, research and innovation in education, and global understanding.
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation Supports universities, national institutions, community groups, youth agencies, family planning centers, and hospitals "with the hope and expectation that we can strengthen them and thereby help the people of this country through the improvement of scientific knowledge, education, health, culture, employment, the environment, and our quality of life."
The Rockefeller Brothers Fund This site provides information on the programs supported by the fund which are concentrated in their One World: Sustainable Resource Use and One World: World Security projects.
Alfred P. Sloan Foundation A description of the foundation's program interests and listing of officers and staff.
Soros Foundations Network Promotes connections and cooperation among the 26 national foundations supported by philanthropist George Soros. Located in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, South Africa, and Haiti, these organizations "help build the infrastructure and institutions necessary for open societies" by supporting programs for education, children and youth, media and communications, civil society, human rights and humanitarian aid, science and medicine, arts and culture, and economic restructuring.
The Surdna Foundation Grant programs focus on the environment-biological and cultural diversity, energy and transportation, restoring the environment in urban and suburban areas-and on community revitalization, as well as on effective citizenry and the arts.

Kellogg (W.K.) Foundation The sponsor provides seed money to non-profit organizations and institutions that have identified problems and designed constructive action programs aimed at solutions in the areas of health, food systems, rural development, youth and education, higher education, philanthropy and volunteerism, leadership, information systems/technology, capitalizing on diversity, and social and economic community development.
Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation conducts agricultural, forage biotechnology, and plant biology research; provides grants to other non-profit organizations; and assists farmers through consultation programs.
Wallace Global Fund The mission of the Wallace Global Fund is to catalyze and leverage critically needed global progress towards an equitable and environmentally sustainable society-with an emphasis on international cooperation.

Patagonia, Inc Patagonia, Inc. of Ventura, CA established the Environmental Grants Program in 1985. The goal of the program is to protect undomesticated lands and waters. 1999 Grants recipients fell in one of the following categories: biodiversity; forests; media/publications; resource extraction/alternative energy; social activism/environmental education; sustainable agriculture; and water/marine. There is also an R & D section that presents the results of different environmental research and development projects
FMC Foundation The FMC Foundation, contributes more than $1.5 million annually in five major areas — health and human services, education, community improvement, urban affairs, and public issues — to nonprofit organizations in FMC communities, as well as to national organizations working on issues relevant to FMC's businesses.
Dow Chemical Company Foundation The Dow Chemical Company is a worldwide provider of chemicals, plastics, energy, agricultural products, consumer goods, and environmental services. The Dow Chemical Company Foundation focuses its funding on community needs in locations where Dow Chemical has a presence; pre-college science education; university-level science, engineering, or business programs; and improving the environment.
Agrilink Foods/ Pro-Fac Foundation The Agrilink Foods/Pro-Fac Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations operating in communities where Agrilink has facilities or where Pro-Fac members are located.
