ORGANIZATIONS DESCRIPTIONS
Center for Respect of Life and Environment Center for Respect of Life and Environment (CRLE) works to to awaken people's ecological sensibilities and to transform lifestyles, institutional practices and social policies to support the community of life. CRLE's major programs identify approaches to economic and social development that recognize the links between ecology, spirituality and sustainability.
Natural Resources Defense Council NRDC is actively involved in major national, regional and international environmental issues including clean water, forests, global warming, wetlands, transportation and fisheries. NRDC's primary strategies are scientific research, public education, lobbying and litigation.
Earth Council The Earth Council is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that was created in September 1992 to promote and advance the implementation of the Earth Summit agreements. The Mission of the Earth Council is to support and empower people in building a more secure, equitable and sustainable future.
Friends of the Earth International Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) is the world's largest federation of environmental groups, uniting close to one million activists worldwide. Its various group campaigns on the most urgent environmental and social issues of our day, including culture, biotechnology, climate change, debt, desertification, development, energy, forests, gender, mining, ozone, sustainability and trade.
Goldman Environmental Foundation The Goldman Environmental Prize is the world's largest prize program honoring grassroots environmentalists. Nominated by a network of internationally known environmental organizations and a confidential panel of environmental experts, recipients are chosen for their sustained and important environmental advocacy.
United Methodist Church, General Board of Church and Society  The General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) is one of four international general program boards of The United Methodist Church. The United Nations Office of GBCS focuses on international and ecumenical advocacy, and interpretation. 
World Council of Churches The WCC is a fellowship of churches, now 337 in more than 120 countries in all continents from virtually all christian traditions.The WCC carries out its collaborative mission through the local actions of its member churches and other ecumenical partners around the world.
World Resources Institute WRI a Washington DC based NGO provides information, ideas, and solutions to global environmental problems. Their mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment for current and future generations. 
World Watch Institute  The Worldwatch Institute is dedicated to fostering the evolution of an environmentally sustainable society--one in which human needs are met in ways that do not threaten the health of the natural environment or the prospects of future generations. The  Institute seeks to achieve this goal through the conduct of inter-disciplinary non-partisan research on emerging global environmental issues, the results of which are widely disseminated throughout the world.
World Wide Fund for nature WWF is the world's largest and most experienced independent conservation organization. WWF provides high quality conservation services by using the best scientific information available, seeking dialogue to build bridges, and taking a responsible, long-term view. It's ultimate goal is to stop, and eventually reverse, the accelerating degradation of our planet's natural environment, and to help build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. WWF is known as the World Wildlife Fund in the USA and Canada. 
Greenpeace Greenpeace is a global environmental campaigning organization. They organize public campaigns for the protection of oceans and ancient forests, phasing out fossil fuels, promotion of renewable energies in order to stop climate change, elimination of toxic chemicals, against the release of genetically modified organisms into nature, nuclear disarmament and an end to nuclear contamination.
Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development AIARD members are from universities, private voluntary organizations, consulting companies, trade associations, private firms, national and international agencies and foundations in every state in the union. The goal being to alleviate world hunger and advancing international agriculture and rural development
International Center for Technology Assessment (CTA)

The International Center for Technology Assessment (CTA) is a non-profit, bi-partisan organization committed to providing the public with full assessments and analyses of technological impacts on society. CTA is devoted to fully exploring the economic, ethical, social, environmental and political impacts that can result from the applications of technology or technological systems.

Coalition on Funding Agricultural Research Missions (CoFARM)  The Coalition on Funding Agricultural Research Missions (CoFARM) is a broadly based coalition united by a commitment to advance and sustain investment in United States’ fundamental and applied agricultural research.
Council for Responsible Genetic

Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) FASEB is a coalition of independent Member Societies that serve the interests of biomedical and life scientists, particularly those related to public policy issues. FASEB facilitates coalition activities among Member Societies and disseminates information on biological research through scientific conferences and publications.
Pesticide Action Network North America (PANNA)  PANNA (Pesticide Action Network North America) works to replace pesticide use with ecologically sound and socially just alternatives. As one of five PAN Regional Centers worldwide, we link local and international consumer, labor, health, environment and agriculture groups into an international citizens' action network. This network challenges the global proliferation of pesticides, defends basic rights to health and environmental quality, and works to insure the transition to a just and viable society.
Resources For the Future (RFF) RFF is a nonprofit and nonpartisan think tank located in Washington, DC that conducts independent research – rooted primarily in economics and other social sciences – on environmental and natural resource issues.
Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS)

Working in coalition with the environmental community, public health officials, progressive farmers, and other public interest organizations, UCS advocates new national policies, analyzes agency actions, and empowers citizens to improve our food web -- the interlinked systems of agriculture, food, and the environment.

Winrock International Winrock International is a nonprofit organization that works with people around the world to increase economic opportunity, sustain natural resources, and protect the environment. Winrock matches innovative approaches in agriculture, natural resources management, clean energy, and leadership development with the unique needs of its partners. By linking local individuals and communities with new ideas and technology, Winrock is increasing long-term productivity, equity, and responsible resource management to benefit the poor and disadvantaged of the world.
Bread for the World

Bread for the World is a nonpartisan Christian organization whose members include Republicans, Democrats and Independents. The board of directors includes grassroots leaders, members of Congress, and leaders of churches and charities. Bread for the World is the largest grassroots advocacy network on domestic and international hunger issues.

 

Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE Inc)

CARE is one of the world's largest private international relief and development organizations. CARE reaches out to people whose lives are devastated by humanitarian emergencies, or who are struggling each day in poor communities to survive and improve their lives. CARE focuses its approach at the family and community levels. We believe that each family should enjoy a basic level of livelihood security.

Global Environmental Facility (GEF)

The Global Environment Facility was established to forge international cooperation and finance actions to address four critical threats to the global environmen biodiversity loss, climate change, degradation of international waters, and ozone depletion. Related work to stem the pervasive problem of land degradation is also eligible for GEF funding. GEF brings together 166 member governments, leading development institutions, the scientific community, and a wide spectrum of private sector and non-governmental organizations on behalf of a common global environmental agenda.

Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA)

IICA is the specialized agency for agriculture of the inter-American system of the Organization of the American States. Its mission is to provide cooperation services for agriculture and to strengthen and facilitate inter-American dialogue. The first task aims to support its Member States in bringing about sustainable development in agriculture and rural areas; the second situates this development within the context of hemispheric integration.

RESULT RESULTS is a nonprofit, grassroots citizens' lobby working to create the political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty. RESULTS identifies sustainable solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world and works to generate the resources necessary to make them succeed.
Technoserve As of September 3, 2001 TechnoServe has helped to launch over 500 rural businesses in 21 countries -- from the Peruvian Andes to Tanzania's coffee-rich hillsides -- that provide economic opportunity to more than 3 million people in the developing world.
Community Food Security Coalition

The CFSC is a non-profit membership-based national coalition of over 600 organizations and individuals that focus on food and agriculture issues. Our mission is to bring about lasting social change by promoting community-based solutions to hunger, poor nutrition, and the globalization of the food system.

Consortium for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (CSARE)

CSARE’s members‘ mission, as diverse practitioners engaged with agricultural research and education, is to cooperatively advance a more just and sustainable agriculture and food system b enhancing institutional and policy environment, cultivating collaborative capacities, and nurturing  a supportive community.

Food First/Institute for Food and Development Policy The Institute for Food and Development Policy better known as Food First--is a member-supported, nonprofit 'peoples' think tank and education-for-action center.
Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) is a leading national organization working to improve public policies to eradicate hunger and under-nutrition in the United States. Founded in 1970 as a public interest law firm, FRAC is a nonprofit and nonpartisan research and public policy center that serves as the hub of an anti-hunger network of thousands of individuals and agencies across the country
Organic Farming Research Foundation

The Organic Farming Research Foundation is a non-profit foundation founded to sponsor research related to organic farming practices, to disseminate research results to organic farmers and to growers interested in adopting organic production systems, to educate the public and decision-makers about organic farming issues.

The Food Alliance The Food Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting increased adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
