IMPROVE SOIL

PRODUCTIVITY

WITH

CROTALARIA

Soil productivity can be improved by growing crotalaria. Crotalaria can be produced intercropped with other crops.

  • Intercropped with maize
Sow crotalaria three weeks after planting maize. Sow approximately 100 seeds per metre in a row between maize rows. Allow crotalaria to grow after harvesting maize until it is time to plant the next crop
  • Intercropped with newly planted banana or coffee

  • Sow crotalaria in 30 cm rows between banana or coffee rows. Avoid planting within one metre of the banana or coffee plants.

  • Intercropped with cassava
Plant two rows of crotalaria between rows of cassava immediately after planting cassava.
  •
  • Intercropped with sweet potato

  • Sow crotalaria where the furrows between the mounds intersect.
