TropSCORE's Worldwide Portal
to Information on Soil Health is an international
clearinghouse and search engine for internet resources on soil cover, organic
inputs and soil management. Using next-generation technology, the Portal is
being developed on behalf of the Tropical Soil Cover and Organic Resource Exchange
(TropSCORE)
Consortium by Cornell University's Mann Agricultural Library and CIIFAD's MOIST
Group. The Portal is designed to link into the Agricultural Network Information
Center (AgNIC), a national
alliance of U.S. land-grant university libraries.
Dr. H.D. Thurston, Professor of Plant Pathology at Cornell University, has been
compiling this database, which contains over 3,000 references on traditional
agriculture (with an expanded section on plant pathology), for nearly ten years.
While the original bibliography uses Endnote (both Mac and IBM formats), the
Traditional Agriculture and Plant Pathology (TAPP) database can now be accessed
in a searchable format through the internet as well. The URL is: http://tapp.mannlib.cornell.edu/
.
This internet-based database contains 2,500 pictures taken over the past 50
years in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Subjects include tropical agriculture,
crops, plant diseases, and sustainable agricultural development with particular
focus on the traditional practices of farmers in developing countries.
