The book gives a description of slash/mulch systems used around the world. The only other book on the subject is: (Thurston, H. D., M. Smith, G. Abawi, and S. Kearl (eds.) 1994. Tapado. Slash/Mulch: How Farmers Use It, and What Researchers Know About It. CIIFAD and CATIE, Cornell Univ., Ithaca, NY. 302 pp.). However, this is a collection of papers given at a workshop. I know of no other books on the subject although there is a vast literature. My book describes some of the the many slash/mulch systems used around the world and second, formulated some principles for the use or adaptation of slash mulch practices. Finally, I have attempted to show that the use of mulching and slash/mulch systems constitute some of the most ecologically sound agricultural systems that traditional farmers have developed over the centuries and that many of these systems can be successfully adopted by resource-poor farmers in many tropical regions.
